Re: Mr. Daniel Kish, World Access for the Blind
I am honored to provide a letter outlining my experience with Daniel Kish, Director of World Access for the Blind. I am the mother of two boys, the younger of whom is five years old and totally congenitally blind. I sought out Mr. Kish when I developed a strong interest in echolocation training for my son, then three years old. As I began to investigate, I quickly learned that Daniel Kish is the “echolocation guru”, so to speak, and is at the top of his field.
When I first sought him out he was very prompt in his reply, providing answers to all of my questions as well as additional information, including the video “Seeing Without Sight”. Soon after we made arrangements to have Mr. Kish come and work directly with our son. For the past two years, he has taught and mentored our son, and the growth and skill development we have witnessed are truly remarkable. We are looking forward with great anticipation to what the years ahead will bring with this relationship.
As a board member of the Alberta Society for the Visually Impaired, a not-for-profit organization serving families of children who are blind or visually impaired in the province of Alberta, Canada, I especially enjoy organizing workshops. My combined interests led me to further seek out Daniel Kish to provide an echolocation workshop for families and those working with our children in our community.
It is difficult to put into words how much of an impact Daniel Kish has had on our family, as well as our community. There is simply no substitute to meeting him in person and seeing firsthand what he is capable of. Not only is he a man of integrity, courage and strength of character, but his abilities in the area of echolocation are unparalleled, in my humble opinion. That being said, what has impressed me the most is that he is able to teach others what he knows so effectively. Daniel Kish taps into his audience, inspires, educates and motivates them, and draws out the potential of his participants. I could not recommend Mr. Daniel Kish more highly, and it is my privilege to know him.
