Traveling a New Road: two day mobility workshop

Anouncement for the workshop

HUMAN SONAR Workshop

This 2-day workshop will provide students with the opportunity to learn that there are NO LIMITS to what they can do. They will receive direct, practical instruction in using hearing to "see" the world. They will learn to use there ears as bats do to tell where and what things are, and to move among things with grace, assurance, and without the need to rely on others. Students will learn to tell a bush from a tree from a pole over 6 feet away, and will detect and find buildings from over 50 feet. They will walk confidently across open space to where they want to go. Older students will learn to cross busy parking lots safely to find a building they are looking for. In addition, students will be involved in a variety of interactive recreational and character building activities including tree climbing, hiking, and ball play. We expect that students will leave the camp with a new sense of personal pride, dignity, and self-assurance, and a wealth of new skills that will grow to enable them to lead rich lives of excitement, quality, and purpose.
